About Us
Welcome to the Y Motel, a historic roadside landmark that has welcomed travelers to beautiful Chama, New Mexico, since 1958. Located at the iconic "Y" intersection of Highways 84, 64, and 17, our little motel blends the nostalgia of a classic American road trip with the comfort and convenience today's travelers appreciate. Since becoming the caretakers of this historic property in 2021, we've been thoughtfully renovating the Y Motel while preserving the nostalgic character that has made it a favorite stop for generations. Rather than creating another cookie-cutter hotel, we're bringing new life to a classic roadside motel by blending vintage charm with the modern comforts today's travelers expect.
The Y Motel isn't a luxury resort, and that's by design. We offer an exceptionally clean, comfortable, and affordable mountain stay with the authentic character of a classic roadside motel, updated amenities, and the conveniences modern travelers appreciate.The Y Motel is intentionally designed as a modern, independent lodging experience. Guests enjoy the convenience of online reservations, contactless check-in, and the freedom to arrive on their own schedule without waiting at a front desk. Inspired by the ease of today's vacation rentals, we're only a phone call or text away if you need anything during your stay. This streamlined approach allows us to keep our operating costs low so we can provide exceptionally clean, comfortable accommodations at some of the best values in Chama.
We've completed impressive improvements throughout the property, including updated bathrooms, air conditioning, flooring, parking, comfortable new beds, quality bedding, upgraded furnishings, fiber-optic Wi-Fi, premium television programming, and many others. While our transformation is still in progress, with approximately half of our renovation plans complete, every season brings new improvements as we continue investing in this little piece of Chama history. Our 13 guest rooms, including five kitchenettes, are favorites among Continental Divide Trail hikers, visitors to the Cumbres & Toltec Scenic Railroad, hunters, families, and travelers exploring Northern New Mexico. Every room is thoughtfully equipped with comfortable beds, quality linens, air conditioning, a refrigerator, microwave, coffee maker, hair dryer, premium TV programming, fiber-optic Wi-Fi, and convenient contactless access for a relaxing, hassle-free stay. At nearly 8,000 feet in elevation, Chama enjoys cool mountain evenings for much of the year, making fresh mountain air one of our favorite amenities. While every room is equipped with air conditioning for your comfort, many guests enjoy opening the windows and taking in the crisp mountain air.

Every season offers something special. Spring and summer welcome hikers tackling the legendary Continental Divide Trail, anglers, campers, and railroad enthusiasts. Autumn paints the mountains in brilliant shades of gold while drawing hunters, photographers, and outdoor lovers. Winter brings snowmobiling, cross-country skiing, holiday festivities, the Chama Chile Classic Ski Race, and some of Northern New Mexico's most breathtaking mountain scenery.
